6 December 2018 year in UkrSCES the Launching Conference on Project no.BSB165 «Creating a system of innovative transboundary monitoring of the transformations of the Black Sea river ecosystems under the impact of hydropower development and climate change – HydroEcoNex» developed within for the Joint Operational Programme Black Sea Basin 2014-2020 took place in Odessa (Ukraine). Deputy Director of UkrSCES Dr. Irina Orlova said the welcome.

The project activities will be implemented by Institute of Zoology (IZ) of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in cooperation with International Association of River Keepers “Eco-Tiras”, Moldova; the University Dunarea de Jos Galati, Romania; the Ukrainian Scientific Center of Ecology of the Sea, and the Hydrometeorological Center for Black and Azov Seas, Ukraine, with a history of long term collaboration. The project’s team will use its own experience and available knowledge in environmental studies such as climate variability and change, river water and alluvial resources, water quality, aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity and their integrated monitoring, assessment of environmental impacts, and environmental policy and legislation. It will also work closely with authorities, public enterprises responsible for energy and water supply, environment protection and fishery, and newly trained specialists to ensure successful implementation and long-term sustainability of the project.

The members of Institute of zoology (Moldova), Internatinal Association of River Keepers “Eco-Trias” (Moldova), Ukranian Scientific center of ecology of Sea and Hydrometiorological Center of Black and Azov Seas (Ukraine) gathered together to discuss the first common steps of the prodject. Each organization presented it facilities and possible ways of collaboration. Professor Dr. Elena Zubcov (IZ), the heard project manager, told to collects about actual problems of Dniester and Prut rivers, general objectives of the project. Dr. Ilia Trombitchi (“Eco-Tiras”) described the social-economic importance of the rivers and role of non-governmental organizations in their protections and environmental education. Dr. Alexander Mataghin spoke about hydrometiorological climite aspects of the Black Sea region and role of rivers in it. Dr. Svetlana Kovalyshyna and Juriy Denga told about history of monitoring and international collaboration of UkrSCES in Black Sea region.
